Blaze almost burns down bird hide at Attenborough Nature Reserve as police investigate fires in county

A bird hide at Attenborough Nature Reserve could have been burned down during a fire.

The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, which runs the reserve, said it is unsure as to how the fire started on Friday evening (April 24).

The trust said: "We're sad to report a fire at Attenborough Nature Reserve on Friday PM near the delta hide.

"It's unclear how the fire started but no one was hurt and the hide isn't damaged thanks to Notts Fire.

"Stay safe everyone."

It comes as Nottinghamshire Police appeal for information regarding separates fire at Bulwell Hall Park, which the force says has likely killed an abundance of wildlife in the undergrowth.

The incident happened on April 26 and fire crews from Stockhill attended the scene whereby around 100 square metres of grass and undergrowth was ablaze.

Bulwell Police said: "An appeal for somebody to ring the police if they have the identities of the people setting fires on Bulwell Hall Park.

"One of the fires would have killed many of our local habitat including hedgehogs, mice, moles and the areas where birds will be nesting at this time of the year."
