It’s been a great day for Sepp Blatter. First Russian president Vladimir Putin says he “must” be awarded the Nobel peace prize, and now a magazine has named the disgraced Fifa boss the “Swiss of the Year”.
The conservative Weltwoche praised Blatter’s “impressive achievement”, calling him an “exceptional Swiss” and a “tireless and admirable fighter for a better world”.
The interview was written by editor-in-chief Roger Koppel, who is considered to be a confidant of Blatter and has defended him in the past.
Then again, maybe it’s not such a great day for the 79-year-old given he is trying to save his presidency of Fifa. He is appearing in front of its ethics committee – the same committee Blatter helped create and whose authority he conveniently does not recognise in this case.
It’s the first time that Blatter has been allowed to enter the Fifa headquarters since he was banned for 90 days in October.
