Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh insists it's still harder for women to get TV gigs than men

Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh has insisted it is still harder for women to get TV gigs than it is for men.

The 49-year-old has just taken over from Mary Kennedy on RTE’s Nationwide.

Ni Chofaigh said: “I don’t care what anyone says, it is not the same for men.”

She told how for years she queried why she was turned down for gigs.

Speaking to RTE Guide, the presenter added: “We’re a bit obsessed with what shows we’re on and how often we’re on.

“Perhaps the changing nature of the business is teaching us not to define ourselves in that way.

“You don’t think you change that much but what’s being asked of you changes.”
