Ginny is a white-skinned ‘blaque’ girl who dreams of becoming the best Aboriginal dancer of the glitzby clubs of Brisvegas, but she’s bullied for the fairness of her skin, and belittled by the judges. That is until the Asian hostess of Kym Den shows her another way to make money out of cultural tourism.
Australian playwright Nakkiah Lui stages her latest piece of cultural commentary, satirising showbiz cliches, flipping the dance film genre and cashing in on cultural tourism. The writer behind Black Comedy and Blak Cabaret is well known for subverting genres and breaking the rules, and Blaque Showgirls promises to delight.
