Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson says is still confident of beating the West of Scotland League Premier Division drop, and says winter signings can make all the difference.
Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at sixth-placed Hurlford has Vics 19th in the 20-team league, going into the winter break, with just 10 points from 21 games.
However, Gibson is still bullish about his chances of finishing above the seven-club trap door.
He said: “There are 19 games left, that’s a lot of points. We’ve had really bad decisions against us, no luck, and at some point it’s got to turn.
“If you work really hard I am a believer that it will turn for you. With 19 games to go, we have half the table we can take points off of.
“It might not be enough to keep us up, but as long as we get a good run in the second half of the season and start picking up points that will be the main thing.
“We’re starting to go in the right direction and another couple of additions when the break’s on just now can maybe get us somewhere. We need a striker, I’m desperate for a striker like everybody, and one or two others to help us.”
Gibson was disappointed not to take anything from Saturday’s game and felt a point was merited, especially after taking the lead through Ryan Whitley.
He said: “I thought we could take a lot of positives out of the game.
“We were 1-0 up at half-time and were dominant in the first half, but just couldn’t get that second goal to get us that wee lead that we could maybe hold onto.
“At 1-1 it was a bit close and we made a wee mistake at the back and got punished, but that’s what happens when you’re down there.
“We hit the post in the last minute, but it hits the other post, when sometimes they bounce in for you.
“We’ve had a couple of good results in the cup and I was disappointed not to take anything from Saturday, but we’re going in the right direction.”
