Blantyre Vics boss says officials were out of their depth, after derby defeat

Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson accused match officials of being out of their depth and says a draw might have been a fairer result as his side crashed to a 3-2 defeat at Rutherglen Glencairn.

Disappointed Gibson says he told his players at half-time not to make a tackle inside the box.

Vics were twice ahead at the Hamish B. Allan Stadium through a Craig Kerr penalty and a strike from PJ O'Donnell, putting them 2-1 ahead at the interval.

However, Glens fought back and Tommy Lone netted his second penalty of the game - adding to another award in the first half - and sub Kit Cummins struck with 12 minutes left to take the points.

Gibson said: "I'm disappointed that we lost three goals, especially when we were twice ahead.

"They've scored a better goal - I don't think they were better than us, I don't think we were better than them, and maybe a draw might have been a fair result, but we weren't really great. It's a bad result for us.

"I said at half-time not to make a tackle in the box because I thought the officials looked out of place today.

"They looked as if they shouldn't be there; at the second penalty he's [referee Chris Hughes] looked at his linesman, who's 50 yards away, and he's 10 yards away. The linesman gives it from the bye-line and there's a post in front of him - I honestly don't get that one.

"In saying that, we shouldn't be making tackles in there and I've said that to them.

"I thought the officials looked out of their depth, and I think there were some strange decisions.

"They were putting their flags up and the referee was overruling them, they were putting them back down, and it didn't look as if they were cohesive with each other, it's as simple as that."

Gibson now has the task of picking his side back up as they head into a clash against Auchinleck Talbot at the KG Stadium next weekend, and says that's why they need to be winning games like at Glencairn.

He said: "We're on to Talbot, so it's another hard one.

"These are the games that we're looking to take points from and we haven't taken them again, so it's disappointing.

"But we just need to dust ourselves down and try and get something, get a wee change from somewhere, and try and get something."
