Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson says home wins can keep them safe

Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson says taking points from games at the KG Stadium can keep them in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

It’s been a tough start for Vics, but they bagged a 3-2 win at home to Benburb last midweek, adding to a 2-2 draw with Hurlford on July 21, which left them on four points, going into tonight's (Wednesday’s) clash with Beith at the KG Stadium.

Gibson says results like Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Auchinleck will happen in a competitive league, but if they take care of business at home it might be enough to avoid the seven relegation spots from the top flight this term.

He said: “In two home games we’ve taken four points, and we’ve got hard ones against Beith and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Saturday.

“We’re always looking to do well at home. You’ve got to make sure you take something from home games, and you can then look to start picking up.

“If you get three points you can jump up this league, so hopefully we can pick up another couple of wins in the next couple of games.

“You’re looking for 13th or 12th, to get out of that relegation zone.”

Gibson was pleased with the win over Benburb and said: “You’re always trying to get that first win on the board and that was a good one, because they had taken seven points out of nine.

“Sam McKenzie got a hat-trick and we were delighted to get a win. It takes a wee bit of pressure off the players.”
