Blantyre Vics boss hopes they've turned a corner ahead of Gartcairn clash

Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson hopes a 5-2 win over Drumchapel United means his side have turned the corner as they head for West of Scotland League First Division leaders Gartcairn tonight.

Vics hit top form on Saturday as an own-goal, an Andy Gallacher double and strikes from Scott Jarvie and Sam McNee gave them a convincing win.

Gibson says it was especially pleasing because United twice equalised, but his side had enough in them to score three more goals.

He said: “it’s about working hard and we need to keep working hard and try and get results.

“It was really pleasing because I thought we played well, and Drumchapel have been going really well – I think they had won 11 on the bounce and they’re still in the big Scottish Cup, so it was a good result for us and a good performance, which was most important.

“It means we’ve turned the corner a wee bit, we’ve got a result after three league defeats in a row, so we’re happy with it, and a really good performance.

“They’ve pulled us back twice and yet we’ve still gone on and had the desire to win the game.

“That will help with confidence. After the game you could feel a wee bit of a buzz about the place, confidence was up and training has been good.”

Vics follow up Wednesday’s clash at Gartcairn with a West of Scotland Cup first round clash at Whitletts Vics, but Gibson wasn’t looking any further ahead than midweek.

He said: “It’s the league-leaders so it will be a hard game but we look forward to it and go into it with confidence.

“Gartcairn had a good result on Saturday, they beat Rossvale 8-0, so they’re flying and it will be a good game.

“We’re then in the West, Whitletts beat us 2-1 at the start of the season, but we’ll take Wednesday night first.”
