Boss John Gibson says Blantyre Vics put in a top performance as they thumped Bonnyton Thistle 6-1 to move third in the West Of Scotland League Premier Division.
A John Cunningham double was added to by strikes from Sam Mackenzie and Gavin Millar, plus an own-goal, to give Vics a 5-1 interval lead, with Lewis MacDonad climbing off the bench to net a sixth.
Gibson was delighted with his dug-out return following a period of self-isolation and said: “In the first half we were excellent, we were really pleased and reckon that’s the best we’ve played for a long time.
“Attacking-wise we were excellent, and even defensively, because they’ve not lost a lot of goals.
“Because I was self-isolating last week i was having a look at them and they were only losing games by the odd goal, giving teams a fright and doing really well, so I was expecting a tough game.
“In the first half we were excellent, in wide areas we had pace, John Cunningham has come in and scored two goals and our two wide people Sam and Gavin have been excellent, so all round the team we were really pleased.
“We could have scored more, but I’m delighted to win 6-1 away from home, especially when teams aren’t really beating them comprehensively.”
Vics host Largs Thistle on Saturday and Gibson expects a tough clash.
He said: “Largs are a good, experienced side, so it will be a difficult one for us but we look forward to every game in this league.
“We take it each week as it comes.”
