Blantyre Vics 2007s celebrate success at Blackpool International Football Tournament

Blantyre Vics 2007s did themselves proud after coming third in the Blackpool International Football Tournament.

The team travelled to the home of Fleetwood Town Football Club over the Easter weekend to take part in the competition, narrowly missing out on a place in the final by just one point.

Nonetheless, the boys did everyone associated with the Vics proud, not only on the football pitches but also in their behaviour and overall representation of the club down south.

On behalf of the team and fellow coaches David Anderson, Robin Cook and Stephen Rushbury, coach Alan McDonald said: “What a weekend in Blackpool for the young Vics.

The boys also visited the Pleasure Beach (Hamilton Advertiser)

“All of our games were played at Fleetwood Town’s training complex, which was a brilliant experience for the boys and a fantastic set-up.

“The lads played brilliantly all weekend against some top sides in the country and narrowly missed out on reaching the final by one point.

“They did us all proud.

“Big thanks also to all the parents and grandparents for coming along and supporting the boys over the weekend.”

As well as their football duties the boys also enjoyed fun on the beach, a trip to the south pier, a day at the Pleasure Beach and a trophy and medal presentation.

The team are now preparing for league business this weekend.
