Blantyre man wasted police time by pretending he’d taken a drugs overdose

A Blantyre man has admitted wasting police time by pretending he’d taken a drugs overdose and needed urgent medical attention.

Worried officers took David Nelson to Wishaw General Hospital where he was transferred to the high-dependency unit before the truth emerged.

Nelson, 21, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday after the incident earlier this month.

He also admitted shouting abuse and threats at police officers at an address in Barrack Street, Hamilton, on February 21.

Nelson further admitted obstructing officers by trying to stop them gaining entry to a house in Springwell Crescent, Blantyre, in March last year.

Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until next month for a criminal justice social work report.

Nelson, who currently has no fixed address, was remanded in custody.
