Blantyre man was twice caught driving while disqualified

A Blantyre man was twice caught driving while disqualified.

James Cook, 24, of Waverley Terrace, was warned this week he was lucky not to face an extended spell in prison.

He admitted driving while banned and without insurance in Hamilton Road, Bellshill, on April 25.

Cook admitted repeating the offences in Purdie Street, Hamilton, on June 26.

He was held in custody over the weekend before his case called at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

Defence agent Tracy Paterson asked for bail, saying Cook is about to resume his job as a construction worker after being laid off during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sheriff Allan McKay called for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.

Sentence was deferred until August 3 and the sheriff said he was prepared “on a margin” to allow Cook bail.
