Blank Slate Creamery of Ann Arbor, Michigan is recalling its Vegan Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Coconut Fudge Sandwiches because the product may contain undeclared egg, according to an official announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on August 4, 2026.

Which Frozen Dessert Is Affected?

The recall affects 4.5-ounce, clear plastic packages of the frozen dessert sandwiches marked with best-by dates of 11/23/26 and 1/9/27. The FDA notes that people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled product was distributed exclusively in Ann Arbor and Brighton, Michigan, at three store locations, making this a geographically limited recall that primarily affects shoppers in those communities.

According to the company’s announcement, the recall was triggered after notification that Rooted in Rare brand Aquafaba powder — an ingredient used in some vegan products — had itself been recalled. The affected Aquafaba powder came in 4-ounce and 12-ounce flexible foil pouches under UPC numbers 199284530959 and 199284306226, with best-by dates of 12/14/2026 and 12/12/2027. Aquafaba is typically made from chickpea liquid and is commonly used as an egg substitute in vegan recipes; the recall suggests the powder in question may have contained egg contrary to its labeling.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue, the FDA announcement states.

What Michigan Shoppers Should Do

Consumers who purchased the 4.5-ounce Vegan Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Coconut Fudge Sandwiches are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Blank Slate Creamery directly at 1-734-580-2437.

This recall is particularly relevant for shoppers who sought out the product specifically because it was labeled as vegan and non-dairy, and who may have assumed it was safe for egg allergies based on that labeling. Shoppers who purchased this product — or who buy vegan frozen desserts more broadly — should check their freezers against the product description and best-by dates listed above.

Readers with specific questions about whether their purchased product is affected should verify details directly with the FDA at FDA.gov or by contacting Blank Slate Creamery at the number provided above.
