Blane Hyland thrilled to be part of Liam Smith Anthony Fowler bill which 'people will be talking about for years'

Blane Hyland returns to a Liverpool boxing ring for the first time since his pro debut, two years ago, on Saturday night.

And the 26-year-old flyweight is thrilled to be part of a bill which he believes will resonate amongst fight fans for a long time.

"I'm really excited," he said. "I've had a great camp, all my friends and family can be there because it's in Liverpool and it's a bill people will be talking about for years to come.

"I should be on early so, hopefully after I've got the result I want, I can settle down and watch the rest of the bill. I know both Liam Smith and Anthony Fowler so I wouldn't like to choose a winner - I just hope the best man on the night gets it.

"I'm just thankful to my promoters, MTK, for getting me on this bill."

Hyland, a classic southpaw stylist, has put in the miles since making his pro debut at the Liverpool Olympia in November 2019.

He has boxed in Bolton, Manchester and Dubai - against an Egyptian called Mo Salah - before a homecoming bout on Saturday night against Frenchman Santiago San Eusebio.

It will be Blane's sixth pro outing and he already has designs on title bouts in the future.

"I know I have the ability to get there," he said. "I live the life, I'm completely dedicated and I want to start moving up to six and eight round fights, then hopefully some time next year 12 round title fights."

The beautiful, historic Lonsdale Belt, currently vacant, is a prize Blane would love to capture - a prize which eluded his decorated father John.

Hyland senior was an Olympian who represented Team GB in Los Angeles in 1984, losing to the legendary Sun Kil Moon - the Korean who claimed an amateur record of 219-22 and became a two weight world champion as a pro - before crossing over and claiming 11 wins from his 15 pro outings.

One of those defeats was for the British bantamweight title and Blane would love to challenge for the historic prize.

He has a few other commitments to worry about first, though.

"My partner Ellie and I are getting the keys to a new house in a fortnight, then our baby is due in November," he explained "so it's been quite a hectic year.

"Saturday's fight will probably be my last for 2021, but I've been pretty busy anyway in and out of the ring. Lockdown didn't change anything for me. I was still able to go out running and train in the garden. I just treated it as a really long camp."

Santiago San Eusebio should find out exactly how hard Blane has been working on Saturday night.
