A heatwave will not finish out a wet and chilly August, forecasters have said, and the month will end up 'very bland.'
The Met Office gave the prediction as Brits prepare for another rainy and cloudy day on Wednesday.
Torrential rain has already lashed the nation for weeks and August has seen cool temperatures for much of the month.
Flooding has also hit parts of the country as the soggy summer stretched on for weeks.
While temperatures will be higher over the coming days, with some regions seeing highs of 25C, there appears to be no let up for the heavy rain that has mired the summer.

The Sun reports Met Office forecaster Steven Keates as saying: "This Summer is not going to be remembered for warmth. It's been very bland.
"We've had flooding, some parts of the country have seen double their average rainfall and temperatures have been unremarkable.
"It's been wishy-washy to say the least - and that's how it's going to end."
He added: "A heatwave is not on the cards - but let's not give up hope altogether. Some September's have come up trumps over recent years."

Today is forecast to be cloudy in most areas with patchy rain likely to start off the day before continuing into the evening.
And this will drag on into Thursday which is expected to see heavy rain in central regions of the UK.
In longer range forecasts the Met Office said Friday will be a fine day for many but with more rain arriving from the west.
Forecasters said for the coming weekend: "Turning warmer into the weekend but increasingly unsettled with a spell of rain for most, heavy in places."
