Bland Blond

Gradually, cautiously I'm growing fonder of my theory that, unlikely as it may seem, Boris will eventually be undone by indifference. The first line from Christian Wolmar's latest broadside:

The most disappointing aspect of Boris Johnson's mayoral performance is that his transport policies are so boring and predictable.

Perhaps it would be a problem for any Tory mayor: the inherent Conservative instinct not to intervene means appearing not to be doing anything much at all in a job that's all about a clear and vivid strategy. Progressive London has linked approvingly to Wolmar's piece. With its conference approaching, it might do well to forget calling Boris a twit and toff reactionary and start depicting him instead as deadly dull.
