Blanchardstown toddler whose Santa presents were stolen at Christmas loses dad to COVID-19

A fundraiser has been launched after a toddler, whose presents from Santa were stolen on Christmas Eve has also tragically lost his dad to COVID-19.

Adam Maxwell, 36, died at the end of January after contracting the fatal virus.

The Blanchardstown man left behind a loving partner, Rebecca Murray, and four-year-old son, Tyler.

Friend Michael English set up a GoFundMe page for the family to help them with the funeral costs.

Adam's death was a massive blow for the young family who had been left distressed after their house was robbed on Christmas Eve as cruel thieves even stolen Tyler's presents.

Michael said that on hearing the news kind-hearted friends and neighbours "took a gift from underneath their Christmas tree and left it at their doorstep".

Adam, who worked at Sky Ireland, was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown after he tested positive for coronavirus at Christmas.

A total of €11,176 has been raised for the family surpassing the goal of €10,000.

Adam was convinced he'd recover within a matter of days.

Michael told Extra.ie: "Adam even sent us a picture of himself with his mask on, saying he’ll be home in a couple of days. He seemed like he was on the mend and was talking away, but a week later things took a very bad turn."

Adam saw his health deteriorate rapidly after he was in ICU as his kidneys and liver started to fail.

He died on January 31.

A statement written by Michael on the GoFundMe page says: "Please help us raise some money for our friend Adam's beautiful family who are in all of our prayers at the moment. ️

"The money will go to his girlfriend Rebecca Murray to cover funeral expenses, plot, headstone etc.

"Adam, an absolute gent who worked at Sky Ireland contracted the COVID-19 virus at Christmas and after some-time in critical condition in hospital, he sadly passed away yesterday, Sunday 31st January.

"It has been a terrible year already for the young family after their house was robbed Christmas eve with their young son's Santa presents taken, we rallied around them to help and now this happens!!

"We are raising funds to ease the burden on his family so anything you can spare is really appreciated.

"THANK YOU!"

Please donate here to help Adam's family with the funeral expenses.
