Justice Minister Heather Humphreys has said that she will speak to the Garda Commissioner about the posting of videos on social media of the Blanchardstown shooting incident.
Gardai had requested a media blackout on Tuesday evening while gardai attempted to control the “dangerous” shoot-out in Dublin.
However, despite news outlets adhering to the request, videos and images appeared on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter in real time.
A media blackout is often requested by gardai when they fear any reporting may result in an escalation of the ongoing operation.
Ms Humphreys said: “I have to say that we’ve had very good conversations with the social media companies about the cyber attack and I spoke with the Garda Commissioner this morning.
“This is something that I will raise with him and if we do need to make changes or there is something we can improve upon I’m happy to bring that forward.”
Ms Humphreys, who is Acting as Justice Minister until Helen McEntee returns from maternity leave, paid tribute to the two gardai that were injured on Tuesday night.
It’s understood one gardai is undergoing surgery to remove a bullet from his foot while the other requires plastic surgery on his hand.
Ms Humphreys said: “It was a very dangerous and serious incident and I want to commend them in achieving a successful outcome.
“I think it’s important that we remember when gardai put on their uniform in the morning, they don’t know what they’re going to face during the day but they are there to protect us as people.
“I’d also like to wish the two gardai that were injured a speedy recovery.”
