Blame Tropical Storm Blanca for rain, muggy weather in Southern California

June 09--Moisture from Tropical Storm Blanca began showering parts of Southern California on Tuesday, a day after the region experienced record-breaking heat.

A swath of light rainfall moved across Southern California early Tuesday and is expected to stick around through the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms are possible.

However, rainfall amounts are not expected to be significant and may reach only up to a half-inch.

Along with the rain, the warm temperatures and added moisture have increased humidity, making for muggy conditions, the weather service reported.

Meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie of the National Weather Service said Tuesday won't be as warm as Monday with temperatures dropping 10 degrees.

Forecasters say blame Tropical Storm Blanca for Tuesday's uncomfortable weather.

A low-pressure system began developing over the eastern Pacific Ocean on Monday and brought warm temperatures across the region.

The hot temperatures broke previously set records in Long Beach (88) and Burbank (102).

The Central Valley was even hotter. Sacramento hit 105, Modesto and Red Bluff hit 106 and Redding hit 107, according to the weather service.

Forecasters say the wet weather should move out of the region by Tuesday and dry conditions continue for the rest of the week.
