ST. LOUIS _ It took six rounds of a shootout, but Sammy Blais _ who was in San Antonio four days ago _ beat Tuukka Rask from the tightest of angles to give the Blues a 2-1 victory Saturday over the Boston Bruins before a sellout crowd of 18,425 at Enterprise Center.
Rookie Jordan Binnington stopped five of six shots in the shootout to improve to 14-2-1 with the Blues.
The Blues upped their record to 33-23-5; Boston, which had won seven straight, is 36-17-9.
Chris Wagner, who scored the game-winning goal Jan. 17 in Boston's 5-2 win over St. Louis, tied Saturday's contest at 1 with a goal early in the second period.
Wagner was left all alone on right wing, beating Binnington near side at the 5:12 mark of the period.
Both teams had plenty of chances in the period. Ivan Barbashev just missed an open net on a tap-in attempt 2{ minutes into the period with the puck rolling wide. Just minutes later, Barbashev fanned on a shot from the doorstep of Rask on a pass from Alexander Steen.
Pat Maroon missed an open net on a rebound attempt of a Vladimir Tarasenko shot.
Binnington made one of his best saves of the season at the 8:16 mark when he robbed former Blue David Backes on a rocket that deflected off Binnington's glove and over the net. Seconds later, Backes missed wide while staring at a lot of open net.
The Bruins picked up the pace as the period progressed, and the Blues struggled to keep up.
It had been 26 games without a goal for Steen, but his long drought ended on the Blues' first shot of the game.
Steen's quick wrister from left wing gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at the 7-minute, 15-second mark of the first period.
