Blair Walsh missed so many kicks during practice with the Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons’ kicking competition is not going well.

For the past 10 seasons, the Atlanta Falcons had a virtual certainty at the kicker position in Matt Bryant. The 44-year-old had made 89 percent of his field goals and 99 percent of his extra-point attempts in his time with the Falcons, but he was released this offseason in favor of Giorgio Tavecchio.

Well, Tavecchio has been abysmal in the preseason, and in hopes of challenging Tavecchio, the Falcons signed embattled kicker (and former Georgia Bulldogs star) Blair Walsh.

Let’s just say that the Blair Walsh Experiment hasn’t gone according to plan … at all. During the media-viewing window at Falcons practice Tuesday, Walsh went 5 of 9 on his field goal attempts. And the misses weren’t even close.

Who could have seen that one coming? Oh, just everybody.

Walsh hasn’t played in the NFL since 2017, and he connected on just 73 percent of his field goals in his final two seasons in the league — along with a crucial playoff miss from 27 yards with the Vikings.

Bryant, despite going 20 of 21 last season, remains unsigned as a free agent.
