Blades in 8 million Cuisinart food processors recalled

The riveted blades in about 8 million Cuisinart food processors are being recalled after customers reported bits of the blade breaking off and getting in their food.

The affected food processors were sold in department and gourmet food stores and on various websites from July 1996 through December 2015.

"The hazard is a laceration," said Karla Crosswhite, spokeswoman for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. "The riveted blade can crack over time and small metal pieces of that blade can break off into the processed food. ... You can swallow that. People have broken teeth on it."

Conair Corp., the Stamford, Conn.-based owner of the Cuisinart brand, has received 69 reports of customers finding broken pieces of the blade in their food. Of those, 30 reported mouth lacerations or tooth injuries.

The blades in question have four rivets, are stainless steel and have a beige plastic center hub. Only food processors with four rivets in the blades are included in the recall. The processors sold for $100 to $350.

Customers should immediately stop using the riveted blade and contact Cuisinart for a free replacement blade. This can be done online at www.cuisinart.com/recall, or by calling 877-339-2534.

"With the holiday season being here, a lot of people are pulling out their food processor and doing a lot of cooking," Crosswhite said. "We want to make sure people" immediately stop using the product.

The model numbers being recalled are CFP-9, CFP-11, DFP-7, DFP-11, DFP-14, DLC-5, DLC-7, DLC-8, DLC-10, DLC-XP, DLC-2007, DLC-2009, DLC-2011, DLC-2014, DLC-3011, DLC-3014, EV-7, EV-10, EV-11, EV-14, KFP-7 and MP-14. The model number is on the bottom of the food processor.
