'Blade Runner 2': Construction worker killed after set collapses in Hungary

The much anticipated reboot of Blade Runner has been struck by tragedy when a construction worker was killed while tearing down some of the film’s sets in Hungary.

The unnamed victim was killed at Budapest’s Origo Studios as he dismantled a piece from one of the sets after production had been completed on the sound stage.

According to Mashable, the platform on which the set was constructed suddenly collapsed on top of him.

Ryan Gosling is among the cast of the reboot

A spokesperson for Alcon Entertainment, which is producing the film, said the local worker was not a member of the film crew, but was rather employed by a subcontractor to dismantle the set.

Production was expected to continue for the remake of the cult sci-fi movie, which stars Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, and Harrison Ford, who reprises his role of Rick Deckard from the original 1982 film.

The Blade Runner sequel is slated for release in October  2017.

While filming has been underway for some time, reports suggest that casting on the movie was only recently been completed. Last week it was announced that Leto would join the cast.

The 44-year-old actor is fresh off his uniquely imagined role as the Joker in Suicide Squad

Few details have been released about the sequel’s plot other than it takes place several decades after the first film.
