Blackwoods gin owner teams up with British Honey Company

The owner of the Blackwoods gin and vodka brands has launched a joint venture with the British Honey Company to create new spirits.

Distil will gain access to BHC’s distillery in Oxfordshire, where master distiller Jamie Baggott makes gin and whisky under the “Keepr’s” brand. BHC will receive assistance from Distil in marketing and distributing its brands.

Don Goulding, executive chairman at Distil, said: “The joint venture will facilitate the creation and marketing of exciting new products and will improve Distil's capability to develop and refresh its own brand portfolio. This new collaboration brings together complementary capabilities, which will benefit both companies and we look forward to communicating our progress in the coming months.”

Each company is putting £30,000 into the joint venture. Distil’s investment means its full-year profits will now fall below City expectations but will still be higher than last year.

Distill, which is quoted on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), bought the Blackwoods gin and vodka brands out of administration in 2013. The company, which was previously known as Blavod Drinks, still harvests the botanicals for the gin and vodka from Shetland.
