Finance: An investment management firm has announced plans to create up to 250 new jobs in Scotland. BlackRock is growing its centre for finance and operations in Edinburgh, reports the Press Association. New posts will be in a range of areas including accounting, administration, finance and support services, according to Business 7.
Marine renewables: A shipyard in Cornwall says a new contract for two ships installing offshore wind turbines will create about 100 jobs, reports the BBC. Most of the jobs on offer at A&P in Falmouth will be for engineers, electricians, steel workers, plumbers and painters.
Retail: Hundreds of jobs are to be created in Peterborough with a multimillion pound revamp of a retail park, according to Peterborough Today. It is estimated up to 800 people could be employed at Brotherhood Retail Park in Walton once a £25m upgrade is completed in the summer of 2012.
Engineering: A Cumbria-based engineering firm will create up to 25 jobs after securing £10m worth of contracts. Workington's Tata Steel Projects will take on an extra 20 to 25 craftsmen over the next few months to meet the increased demand, reports the News & Star.
Supermarket: Sainsbury's has been given final clearance to build a new £40m store in Carlisle, leading to 500 jobs. Carlisle city council last week confirmed that permission for the store has been granted, reports the News & Star.
Restaurant: The opening of a new restaurant by fast food giant McDonald's will bring 80 new jobs to Birmingham. A range of new jobs, from part-time posts to full-time trainee business managers, are being created, reports the Birmingham Mail.
