Blackpool’s Jerry Yates completes Swansea City medical as club to pay biggest transfer fee in five years and player heads other way

Kyle Joseph is set to complete a move to Blackpool as part of the move taking Jerry Yates to Swansea City.

Yates completed a medical on Tuesday, and is expected to be confirmed as the club's third signing of the summer in the next few hours, in a deal believed to be around £2.5m.

It's the highest transfer fee the Swans have paid for a player since the £3m package to bring Bersant Celina to the club back in 2018, with Yates netting 14 goals in the Championship despite Blackpool's relegation.

However, it seems Joseph, who played under Michael Duff when the pair worked together at Cheltenham Town, will now head the opposite way to Bloomfield Road.

Joseph spent last season on loan at League One side Oxford United, where he scored nine goals and provided one assist in 37 games. However, he has largely struggled to make his mark on the first team picture at the Swasea.com Stadium.

During his time at Cheltenham under Duff in the 2021-22 season, he managed to net four goals in 19 appearances.

Joseph wasn't included in the squad for Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Brondby in a behind-closed-doors friendly, and it seems his time in SA1 is now over.

There could well be further exits before the close of the window, of course. Joel Piroe, who did play against the Danish outfit at Fairwood, is still highly likely to be sold, with Serie A giants Atalanta and Leicester City recently holding further discussions over a move.

Southampton, Everton and Nottingham Forest are among the other sides to have recently made enquiries about the Dutchman.
