Blackpool Pleasure Beach's Ghost Train ride 'haunted by clog-wearing spirit'

One of the UKs most popular tourist attractions is said to be haunted by a clog-wearing ghost who used to work there.

Whilst Blackpool Pleasure Beach offers a sense of fun, thrills and nostalgia for many tourists and staycationers, some may get more of an adrenaline rush than they bargained for on one ride in particular.

The Ghost Train, which first opened in 1930, is said to be the most haunted ghost train ride in the world.

And according to holiday rental search engine Holidu , and paranormal database Higgypop, it was the first ride of it’s kind to use the term ‘ghost train’ - perhaps tempting fate.

The family-favourite attraction is a hotbed for poltergeist activity, but one spirit in particular is said to haunt the ride.

‘Cloggy’ was one of the original ride operators, nicknamed such because he was known for wearing clogs.

He loved his job so much that, even after he passed away, he continued showing up for work and causing mischief.

People have reported hearing mysterious footsteps, groaning sounds, scratching noises, and the sound of clog-laden footsteps, which staff members insist are not part of the experience.”

But it’s not the only haunted area of the park, which attracts seven million visitors a year.

The gift shop beneath the Sir Hiram Maxim's Captive Flying Machines ride has seen spirits of children, particularly that of a young girl, as well as gifts flying off the shelves and moving around at night.

Visitors can also expect to be spooked by a phantom hanging man and a blood-stained woman at other rides in the park.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach offers thrillseekers the chance to ride some of their iconic coasters in the dark on selected dates throughout the year.

They will be able to take on the park’s tallest ride, The Big One, as well as Infusion, with five loops suspended completely over water.

This year, late night rides until 10pm are available to book on October 23 and October 30 - the day before Halloween.

Blackpool's popular illuminations were switched on last month, and are set to illuminate the seaside town until January 3, 2022.

A spokesperson from Holidu said: “Dark tourism and haunted attractions have been a growing trend in the United Kingdom, with more than 30,000 searches in the past year alone. The UK is home to some of the most haunted places in the world, from deadly dungeons to ghoulish graveyards. Who fancies saying hi to Cloggy and friends?”

Other haunted attractions that made the top 10 include the Tower of London, the British Museum and Heathrow Airport in the capital city.

Windsor, Edinburgh and Warwick Castles are all on the list, with Edinburgh’s most well known spectre being a piper who went missing hundreds of years ago, whilst playing his pipes in the tunnels beneath the castle.
