Blackpool journalists vote for strike

Journalists at the Blackpool-based Gazette and Herald newspapers, owned by Johnston Press, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

National Union of Journalists members are unhappy with a new computer content management system that could lead to subbing cuts. The new system will let reporters input copy directly on to the page.

In the ballot, members voted 29 in favour and seven against strike action from 37 ballot papers.

Action short of striking was approved by 32 votes, with four against. The chapel will meet to decide what industrial action it will take.
