Blackpool Illuminations 2021 - dates, times, location and more

The big Blackpool Illuminations switch-on event for takes place this evening.

It will be a night to remember, with plenty to keep people entertained.

The concert internet star KSI, with special guests Digital Farm Animals and producer S-X.

Multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Ella Henderson and Wes Nelson will also join this year's line-up.

Where will the s witch-on take place?

The switch-on will take place at the world-famous Blackpool tower, which was modelled after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

Every year, someone has the honour of pulling the switch to light up the six mile strip of Blackpool's Promenade.

This year, the person in charge of pulling the switch is Shirley Ballas, one of the world’s most accomplished dancers and now the head judge on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The switch-on will begin tonight (Friday, September 3) and will mark the beginning of the Blackpool Illuminations season.

The official time for the switch on tonight is 8.50pm and will last into Saturday morning where they'll be turned off for the day at 1am.

After this, the lights will be turned on in the evening on most days from 5pm to 8pm and usually lasts until the following evening from 10pm to 12am.

Can I still watch the event if I can't make it in person?

Don't fret too much if you can't see the switch-on in person because MTV have taken it upon themselves to live-stream the event on YouTube.

The live stream will start at 8pm and will showcase a concert before the switch-on starts at 8.50pm.

How long will the lights be on this year?

People are in for a treat this year because the Blackpool Illuminations season has been extended this year for four months.

This means the lights will be up until Monday, January 3, 2020, giving you plenty of time to plan a trip to Blackpool to see the lights!
