Blackpool FC fans hail Shayne Lavery following 93rd-minute goal

Talk about making an immediate impact.

Shayne Lavery could barely have wished for a better competitive debut for Blackpool.

The former Linfield striker has been making a positive impression since returning across the water.

He earned some headlines in midweek when he turned Manchester City's defence inside out to win a penalty in the Tangerines' pre-season friendly against the Premier League champions.

And on Saturday Lavery went one better, coming off the bench to score an injury time equaliser to rescue a point for Blackpool in their Championship opener against Bristol City.

The Northern Ireland international scored in the 93rd minute, sending Blackpool's travelling fans into raptures.

And that applause continued on social media as Lavery came in for praise.

One fan said: "Glad the lads realised that BC were poor and got something out of the game. Looked a different side after Lavery and Bowler came on #UTMP onwards and upwards!!!!:"

Another tweeted: "You absolutely love to see it. Lavery is a player."

Connor added: "Why he was on the bench is beyond me, dribbles past Dias and now scores in the championship. Starts next game for me. I'll take a point on 1st day."

Another said: "Said it before, this lad reminds me of Brett and Vardy. Slow to get his career going but boy he can play! And defences must HATE him!"

And one more Blackpool fan tweeted: "This lad is a baller."
