Blackpool Coral Island blaze: The moment flames ripped through popular amusement park

This is the shocking moment flames could be seen ripping through Coral Island in Blackpool.

Fire crews were called to the indoor amusement-park, on the Central Promenade, shortly after 12am this morning, LancsLive reports .

It was brought under control by firefighters from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service.

According to LancashireLive , it is unknown how the fire was started and there was no damage to the interior of the building.

It is hoped Coral Island will open as normal today.

The amusement park is one of the most recognisable attractions on the promenade and includes a mix of children's rides, amusements and offers free meals for kids.

Ian Armistead, the station manager at Blackpool fire station, said: “Spoken to the Incident Commander this morning, confirmed the fire crews quickly knocked the fire preventing further damage.

“Well done all.”

Jack Davies, of Bolton, said: "This is really grim. The hopes and dreams of millions of youngsters exist in that place.

"I have such fond memories of going there as a kid, armed with a bucket full of 2p pieces and aspirations of being the next Richard Branson."
