Blackpool boss makes 'fortunate' claim after thrashing Nottingham Forest

Blackpool manager Michael Appleton says thrashing Nottingham Forest 4-1 in the FA Cup was a "fantastic day" in his career.

The Championship strugglers were disciplined and performed well as they put four past Steve Cooper's Reds and advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Ryan Yates scored Forest's only goal of the game, a consolation after the home side went four up.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Appleton said Saturday was one of several "fantastic" FA Cup days in his career, and was full of praise for the way his players "rode the storm" to beat Forest at Bloomfield Road.

"This is a fantastic competition that I have been quite fortunate to experience fantastic days in and this was one of them," Appleton said after the match.

"I think the [clinical edge] is something we have lacked over the last five or six weeks since the break. We knew Nottingham Forest would have their chances but it was about putting blocks in, forcing shots wide and Chris Maxwell would have to make good saves. We rode the storm out at 1-0 and once scored the second we showed more freedom.

"We have gone on spells this season where we score three goals a game and then go on a little bit of a drought. What I will say is Morgan Rogers and Josh Bola back, Keshi Anderson who will return to the group and we want to bring two or three more players in before the window shuts.

"We are working hard to be hard to beat but at the same time we get players into great positions we just have to be more clinical.

"The fans have been great but we haven't given them enough at home but it isn't through the want of trying."
