In the past several weeks, Lisa, best known for her work with the band Blackpink, has proved that she is one of the most successful solo K-pop musicians of all time, and she has amazingly managed that title with just two songs. She made history in the U.K. when her first single “Lalisa” arrived, and now, just a few frames later, she’s bested her own highest placement and passed another beloved artist as her current focus continues to climb in one of the largest music markets in the world.
On the current edition of the U.K. singles chart, Lisa’s single “Money” jumps from No. 81 to No. 59, and that has turned out to not just be an impressive leap, but a historic one as well. By improving its best position by more than 20 spots, Lisa’s latest has moved up on the all-time ranking of the highest-charting tracks by K-pop soloists.
“Money” now stands as the fourth-highest-charting track by a solo K-pop musician, male or female. It passes both Lisa’s own “Lalisa” and “Daechwita” by Agust D, also known as Suga of the band BTS. Those two cuts both peaked at No. 68 in the U.K., and until this frame, they ranked higher than Lisa’s second smash.
At the moment, Psy continues to claim the two highest-charting songs by a solo K-pop musician, and he remains the only artist from South Korea of any kind to reach the No. 1 spot. His boundary-breaking smash “Gangnam Style” went all the way to the penthouse back in 2012. Less than a year later, he returned to the highest tier with “Gentleman,” which pushed to No. 10.
The only other K-pop solo artist that has managed to climb higher than Lisa has with “Money” is her Blackpink bandmate Rosé. A few months before Lisa released music on her own, Rosé’s “On the Ground” opened and peaked at No. 43 on the U.K. singles chart.
Lisa remains one of a small number of female K-pop solo artists to chart a hit in the U.K., and one of a very, very limited club of artists from that part of the world that have reached the singles ranking more than once. “Money” helped her make history the minute it debuted, and with each passing frame, it continues to further establish Lisa as a powerhouse in new ways.
