Blackpill Lido is re-opening in Swansea today

One of Swansea's most popular family attractions has officially reopened, even if the weather may not be on its side, with the Met Office predicting some heavy spells of rain.

The lido had been temporarily closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic, but from today, until Sunday, September 13, it is back operating for seven days a week from 9am until 5pm.

The free facility is made up of a paddling pool, children's play area, climbing rock and picnic facilities.

Swansea Council has refilled the lido's pool with chlorinated water, but stressed the importance of continuing to follow social distancing guidelines.

There will be regular spot cleaning of hard surfaces and routine water quality tests, whilst the toilets on site will be back open in a restricted capacity.

A statement from the authority read: "We've now carefully re-opened the facility in line with latest government guidelines.

"It remains important for children aged over 10 and adults to continue to follow social distancing and other measures to keep them safe.

"However, the Welsh Government has relaxed the position on under-11s having to maintain a two-metre distance from each other or from adults.

"The lido re-opens with banners and posters reminding visitors of safety guidelines.

"The lido's pool has been refilled with chlorinated water and the fountains and features will operate daily 9am-5pm until September 13 unless otherwise publicised."

A shark was spotted in the water off a Gower beach:

It added: "Outdoor leisure assistants from the council will be on duty during operational hours. They will undertake regular spot cleaning of hard surfaces and routine water quality tests.

"The public toilets on site are open in a restricted capacity."
