A murder investigation is under way after a woman’s body was found in a garage in south London.

Police were informed a body had been found in Prendergast Road in Blackheath, south-east London, on Friday evening.

The victim has not been formally identified, but the family of a woman in her 50s reported missing on 15 May have been informed, Scotland Yard said.

“Although cause of death has not been determined, the woman who was sadly found deceased has injuries suggestive of third-party involvement,” said Metropolitan Police’s Detective Chief Inspector David Blair said.

DCI Blair, who is leading the investigation, added: “At this stage we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death, which is being investigated as a murder.”

A post-mortem on Sunday at Greenwich Mortuary was not able to establish cause of death. A crime scene remains on Prendergast Road in place as enquires into the death continue.

Scotland Yard’s directorate of professional standards has been informed, as will the Independent Office of Police Conduct, owing to the likelihood the victim is the woman reported missing in May.

“Please contact my team if you have information which could help our enquiries,” said DCI Blair.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0208 721 4961 or through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
