Three people have been injured after a car crashed into an “iconic” roadside tea hut in London.

A vehicle collided with a building on Blackheath Common around 7pm on Tuesday, according to the Metropolitan Police.

A police spokesperson said a man and a woman had been taken to hospital following the crash. “Neither person’s condition is life threatening,” they said.

The London Ambulance Service said an additional person had been hospitalised.

Appeals have been made for donations towards the Blackheath Tea Hut in southeast London, which was involved in Tuesday evening’s collision.

“A much-loved iconic piece of Blackheath history has been pretty much destroyed this evening,” said an appeal on fundraising site GoFundMe..

It said: “The Tea Hut has been around for many many years, and a frequent meeting place for bikers, car enthusiasts and people stopping by for a cuppa tea and a legendary ‘Animal Burger’.”

An appeal on JustGiving said: “Blackheath would not be the same without this iconic part of its history.”

The Met Police said they have made no arrests in connection with the crash and that enquiries are ongoing.
