Blackhawks swing deal with Stars to bring back Johnny Oduya

Johnny Oduya is returning to the Blackhawks.

Despite general manager Stan Bowman saying the Hawks were not going to make a big splash at the trade deadline, they did just that Tuesday in acquiring Oduya, who helped the Hawks win two Stanley Cups in 2013 and 2015, from the Stars, the Hawks announced.

The Hawks appeared to not give up much in the deal _ they gave the Stars forward prospect Mark McNeill and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 draft. The fourth-round pick becomes a third-rounder if the Hawks win two rounds of the playoffs and Oduya plays in 50 percent of the games.

To help make the deal work for the Hawks, a source told the Tribune the Stars are retaining 50 percent of Oduya's $3.75 million salary and cap hit.
