Blackhawks squander early lead but recover to beat Sabres in shootout, 5-4

CHICAGO _ The Sabres stormed back from an early deficit to take a pair of leads, but Brendan Perlini tied the score with a third-period goal, and Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat each scored in the shootout to give the Blackhawks a 5-4 victory Thursday night at the United Center.

Brandon Saad nearly won it in overtime, but his shot from near the right face-off circle hit the post.

Artem Anisimov's second goal tied it 3-3 with 15:12 left in the third. Kyle Okposo put the Sabres back up a goal less than three minutes later.

Perlini scored his third goal in his last three games 37 seconds later to make it 4-4.

Corey Crawford moved to a perfect 10-0 in his career against the Sabres. The Hawks beat the Sabres for the 14th time in their last 15 meetings.

The Hawks went ahead on first-period goals by Duncan Keith and Anisimov. Kane assisted on both to give him 924 career points and move past Steve Larmer for fourth on the Hawks' all-time scoring list.

Vladimir Sobotka, Brandon Montour and Zach Bogosian scored three goals in a span of 3:29 early in the second period _ Bogosian's was shorthanded _ to quickly erase a two-goal deficit and take a 3-2 lead.

The once-smoking Hawks power play has gone cold with two goals in the last 20 opportunities, including 0 for 5 against the Sabres.
