Blackhawks snap a 3-game skid with a 3-0 win over the Stars as Corey Crawford notches his 26th career shutout

CHICAGO _ The urgency was there again, and so was the effort.

The second time around, that was enough to translate into a huge win for the Blackhawks against the hottest team in hockey.

Brandon Saad, Patrick Kane and Connor Murphy had goals, and Corey Crawford picked up his 26th career shutout to give the Hawks a 3-0 victory at the United Center and end the Stars' seven-game winning streak.

The Hawks improved to 10-9-5.

The game bore an uncanny resemblance to Saturday's exciting game in Dallas that the Stars won 2-1 in a shootout. The pace was quick early in the first period with Crawford and Stars goalie Anton Khudobin stopping prime chances.

Shortly after Khudobin stonewalled Zack Smith following his steal in the offensive zone, Crawford stopped Denis Gurianov's breakaway to keep the game scoreless.

The Hawks had not scored in the first two periods during their three-game losing streak, but they got on the board early Tuesday. Saad took a pass from Erik Gustafsson in the slot and slid a shot under Khudobin's left pad with 8:40 remaining in the first for a 1-0 lead.

Crawford had another outstanding game, stopping 32 shots to improve to 4-1-1 with a .948 save percentage in his last six starts. He made a spectacular pad save on Tyler Seguin during the Stars' second power play to keep the Hawks in front.

The Hawks penalty kill was perfect in two opportunities and has allowed one power-play goal in 15 chances over the last six games. The Hawks didn't have their first power play until midway through the third period, but it turned out to be an important one.

Alex DeBrincat captured a rebound outside the slot and found Kane streaking in from the top of the faceoff circle, where his wrist shot beat Khudobin for his 12th goal of the season. It was just the second power-play goal in the Hawks' last 18 chances, and it extended Kane's point streak to 13 games.

Murphy added an empty-netter that went the length of the ice before settling into the net.

Dylan Strome (concussion protocol) participated in the morning skate but was a last-minute scratch. It's not known when he was hurt or began to feel concussion symptoms.

The Hawks will host the Avalanche at 3 p.m. Friday at the United Center.
