Blackhawks score late goal to salvage a point but Canucks win 3-2 in overtime

CHICAGO _ The Blackhawks' plan seemed simple enough: Watch the Coyotes lose to the NHL's best team then take two points from a mediocre Canucks squad.

The Hawks got it half right.

Erik Gustafsson's shot from the blue line tied the game with 3:13 left in regulation, but Bo Horvat scored 16 seconds into overtime to beat the Hawks 3-2 on Monday at the United Center and snap their five-game win streak.

The Hawks moved to within four points of the Coyotes for the final Western Conference wild-card spot but failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity to tighten the race even more with 10 games remaining.

Coming off a shutout win against the Canadiens, Corey Crawford started his sixth straight game and was superb again as he stopped 31 shots.

Jonathan Toews' first-period goal -- his 31st of the season -- snapped an 0-for-18 power-play skid and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Patrick Kane had an assist on the goal to reach the 100-point mark for the second time in his career, joining Denis Savard (five) and Jeremy Roenick (three) as the only Hawks with multiple 100-point seasons.

The Canucks got their first power play in the opening minute of the second period when Marcus Kruger was called for interference. Four seconds into the power play, Alexander Edler's shot from the blue line deflected off Hawks defenseman Slater Koekkoek and bounced past Crawford to tie it 1-1.

Less than five minutes later, Crawford stopped a shot from Brock Boeser but Markus Granlund was there to pound it in, giving the Canucks a 2-1 lead.
