Blackhawks recall Bryan Bickell from Rockford

April 06--With the Blackhawks down possibly three injured forwards for their game Thursday against the Blues, they recalled a familiar face.

For the third time this season, the Hawks on Wednesday promoted winger Bryan Bickell from Rockford. Bickell, 30, has two assists in 23 games with the Hawks.

The Hawks defeated the Coyotes 6-2 on Tuesday without wingers Marian Hossa (left leg injury) and Andrew Shaw (upper body). In the second period, center Artem Anisimov exited after Coyotes center Antoine Vermette crushed him into the boards.

Coach Joel Quenneville said Anisimov suffered an upper-body injury and is day to day.

The Hawks placed Bickell on waivers at the start of the season. He cleared waivers and played in seven October games with the Hawks but was sent to Rockford on Nov. 2 in an attempt to rejuvenate his game.

After Bickell had seven goals and seven assists in 12 games with the IceHogs, the Hawks brought him back Dec. 6. But his game flatlined and he was demoted in January. The Hawks attempted to trade Bickell before the deadline but could not strike a deal.

Bickell is in the third year of a four-year, $16 million contract he earned based in part off of strong playoff performances. He had nine goals in 23 postseason games in 2013 and seven goals in the 2014 playoffs but did not score in last season's Stanley Cup run.
