COLUMBUS, Ohio _ The Blackhawks kept taking shots and kept getting power plays until, finally, they paid off.
Dylan Strome and Erik Gustafsson scored late in the third period, and Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane converted in a shootout to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 victory over the Blue Jackets on Sunday at Nationwide Arena.
Gustafsson's power-play goal with 2:02 left in regulation tied the game for the Hawks.
The Hawks had a power play in overtime but weren't able to convert. The Blue Jackets began a power play with 18.1 seconds left in overtime and appeared to score, but it was ruled that time expired before the puck went in.
Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo left the game with an injury after allowing Toews' goal on the Hawks' first shootout attempt. He was replaced by Elvis Merzlkikins, who allowed Kane's shootout goal.
Robin Lehner stopped two of three shootout attempts for his first shootout win of the season. The Hawks were outshot 34-30 in the game but led 64-52 in shot attempts. The Blue Jackets excelled at not letting shots get through, blocking 15 over the first 40 minutes and 23 for the game.
The Blue Jackets went up 1-0 when Riley Nash zipped in a wrist shot that deflected off Slater Koekkoek's skate to surprise Lehner. With a little over a minute left in the first, Nick Foligno sent a gorgeous no-look backhand pass across the crease to find Pierre-Luc Dubois waiting to one-time it and make it 2-0.
Jeremy Colliton rebuilt his top two lines for the final period, putting Kane, Toews and Ryan Carpenter on one line and Strome, Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach on another. The moves appeared to energize the Hawks.
Strome's deflection of a Connor Murphy shot midway through the third period got the Hawks on the board. Gustafsson's power-play goal was just his second tally in his last 19 games.
Strome also nearly scored midway through the second period when his wraparound effort bounced tantalizingly around the crease before the Blue Jackets were able to sweep it away.
