CHICAGO _ It took two reviews to take away what would have been a go-ahead goal for the Blackhawks on Tuesday during their 3-2 loss against the Flames, their third in a row overall and fifth straight at home.
It took one quick review to determine that the Flames' Michael Stone's winning goal was good with 3 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in the third.
The Hawks' Ryan Hartman fell down in front of the net, the puck went in, hugs were exchanged and the Hawks thought they led 2-1 in the second period.
Upon further review after the first review, which determined Hartman did not kick the puck in, the second review erased the goal when it determined that Hartman had interfered with Flames goalie Mike Smith.
Thus, Hartman was denied what would have been his first goal in 14 games. The NHL ruled that "Hartman prevented Smith from doing his job in the crease."
Boos poured from every nook and cranny of the United Center as the scoreboard rewound to 1-1.
Alex DeBrincat put the Blackhawks up 1-0 with 16:25 remaining in the first, his 19th goal of the season and fifth in five games.
It also marked the 14th straight Hawks goal scored by a player 23 years old or younger and put DeBrincat second on the team behind Patrick Kane for goals scored.
The Hawks escaped potential disaster in the first period after Erik Gustafsson and Brent Seabrook were called for penalties 20 seconds apart, giving the Flames a two-man advantage for 1:40.
But Dougie Hamilton took advantage of a two-on-one 1:10 into the second to tie the score at 1.
DeBrincat hit the crossbar a little less than halfway through the third.
The Flames scored an empty-net goal late in the third.
Kane scored with five seconds left to pull the Hawks within one.
The Hawks fell to 24-21-8, while the Flames improved to 27-18-8.
