Blackhawks' long winning streak against Sabres ends with 5-3 loss

BUFFALO, N.Y. _ Jonathan Toews became the fifth Blackhawk _ along with Artem Anisimov, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane and Nick Schmaltz _ to reach 20 goals this season.

Toews put in his own rebound a little more than 20 seconds into the third period Saturday to put the Hawks in position to top the Sabres for the 13th consecutive time.

But his go-ahead goal was short-lived.

Nicholas Baptiste rendered Toews' goal meaningless when he scored his second of the game with 1 minute, 56 seconds remaining on a power play to help boost the Sabres to a 5-3 victory.

Buffalo added an empty-net goal after Baptiste's to secure their first win against the Hawks since 2009.

The teams traded goals throughout the game.

Kane's pretty pass to Jordan Oesterle with 11:45 remaining in the second temporarily tied the score 1-1.

Oesterle just about ran over Berube when Benoit Pouliot put the Sabres up 1-0 with 1:50 remaining in the first. He was on his back again after trying to clear the puck from the net on Jack Eichel's blast in the second. Instead, Ryan O'Reilly was credited with the goal that put the Sabres up 2-1.

The Hawks tied it again with 5:45 remaining in the second when Tomas Jurco was given a gift of a goal that bounced in off the Sabres' Rasmus Ristolainen.
