Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews Reveals He’s Dealing With Long COVID

On Sunday, Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews announced that he’s been dealing with the effects of long COVID-19, which has forced him to miss the past few weeks of games.

The 34-year-old, who missed the entire 2020-21 season after testing positive for COVID-19, said he had been playing through symptoms earlier this year, a task he called “really challenging.” He has not appeared in a game since Jan. 28.

“In the last few weeks, it has reached the point where I had no choice but to step back and concentrate on getting healthy,” Toews wrote in a statement. “I am thankful for the patience and support of my teammates, the coaching staff, and the entire Blackhawks organization.”

Toews has spent his entire NHL career with the Blackhawks after joining the team in 2007. He’s been a member of three Stanley Cup championship teams with Chicago, winning in ’10, ’13 and ’15. In 46 games this season, he’s notched 14 goals and 14 assists.
