DENVER _ The surging Blackhawks pulled off their second Central Division road win in as many nights as they beat the Avalanche, 2-1, on Friday at the Pepsi Center for their third straight win overall.
Artem Anisimov scored the winner early in the third period after Patrick Kane's shot slipped through Avs goalie Philipp Grubauer's pads, allowing Anisimov to sneak in and tap in the puck as it was resting on the goal line.
Hawks rookie goalie Collin Delia, making his first start of the season and third of his career, was brilliant while making 35 saves.
The Hawks were outshot 36-28 but were able to shut down the high-scoring line of Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan McKinnon and Mikko Rantanen.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead on Alex DeBrincat's 16th goal with 11 minutes, 53 seconds left in the first. Dominik Kahun had just left the penalty box after serving a bench minor for too many men when he took a pass from Connor Murphy in the neutral zone to start a 2-on-1 with DeBrincat, who buried a shot from inside the left face-off circle.
Delia stopped 14 shots in the first period, but the Avs got one past him at the 17:02 mark of the second after a defensive breakdown. Hawks defensemen Gustav Forsling and Brent Seabrook didn't notice J.T. Compher skate into the slot all alone. Alexander Kerfoot sent a pass from behind the net to Compher, who blew it over Delia's left shoulder to make it 1-1.
Midway through the second period, Grubauer made a brilliant glove save to deny Anisimov, then a couple minutes later he made consecutive sprawling saves on shots by Dylan Sikura to keep the game tied.
