Sunday's recap: Blackhawks 6, Stars 2

Nov. 17--The summary

Patrick Kane and Kris Versteeg each had a goal and two assists, Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews a goal and an assist apiece and Brent Seabrook and Brandon Saad also scored as the Blackhawks throttled the Stars 6-2 on Sunday night at the United Center. Marian Hossa and Brad Richards -- playing in his 1,000th NHL game -- each had two assists. Curtis McKenzie and Shawn Horcoff scored for the Stars.

In the nets

After yielding two first-period goals, Corey Crawford was rock solid in his eighth consecutive start. The Stars' Kari Lehtonen was under siege throughout and couldn't hold back the Hawks during a four-goal, 23-shot barrage in the third period.

Short-handed

The Hawks played most of the game with five defensemen after rookie Trevor van Riemsdyk was hit in the left leg with a first-period shot from the Stars' Trevor Daley. Coach Joel Quenneville said van Riemsdyk "got hurt pretty bad. He's out for a while." The Hawks are expected to recall a defenseman for the upcoming six-game trip.

Scary moment

One minute into the second period, Seabrook got tangled up with the Stars' Ryan Garbutt and slammed back-first into the end boards. Seabrook was slow to leave the ice and missed one shift before finishing the game.

Roster report

Daniel Carcillo returned to the lineup after missing the previous 10 games with a right knee injury. Joakim Nordstrom, recalled from Rockford on Saturday, made his season debut, while Jeremy Morin and David Rundblad were healthy scratches. Patrick Sharp missed his fifth consecutive game with a right knee injury.

Tribune's Three Stars

1. Kane: First multi-point game since Oct. 21 against the Flyers.

2. Keith: Logged 25:31 of ice time while the Hawks were down a defenseman.

3. Richards: Two assists while celebrating his 1,000th career game.

The quote

"If you're going hot or if you're in a little bit of a slump, you try to take every game as a clean slate and restart." -- Kane
