CALGARY, Alberta_Saturday night was prime time for the Chicago Blackhawks to gain some ground in the playoff race.
But it wasn't meant to be. The Hawks fell 4-3 in overtime to the Calgary Flames, who won for the first time in seven games thanks to Sean Monahan's goal early in overtime.
The home-and-home series will conclude Tuesday at the United Center.
Nick Schmaltz put the Hawks up 1-0 in the first with his 21st point in 21 games. Vinnie Hinostroza made it 2-0 early in the second before the Flames answered with two goals of their own. Anthony Duclair scored on a breakaway to break the tie later in the period.
But the Flames tied it again in the third on Michael Frolik's goal.
