The Blackhawks announced Sunday the acquisition of forward Michael Chaput from the Canucks for forward Tanner Kero.
Chaput, a 26-year-old who was originally drafted in 2010 by the Flyers, saw time with the Canucks last season while playing 55 games for the Utica Comets in the AHL. He finished second on the Comets with 42 points and scored two goals with one assist in five Calder Cup playoff appearances.
He also proved strong on faceoffs in nine games with the Canucks last season, winning 58.1 percent.
Kero, who was signed by the Blackhawks in 2015, recorded eight goals and 14 assists in 72 regular-season games with the Hawks from 2015-18.
In 2016-17, Chaput scored four goals with five assists and 68 hits in 68 games with the Canucks. From 2013-18 with the Blue Jackets and Canucks, he played in 135 regular-season games with six goals and 11 assists.
In 301 career AHL games, he scored 77 goals with 121 assists, helping the Lake Erie Monsters to the 2016 Calder Cup championship.
In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2011-12, Chaput won the Memorial Cup title and Memorial Cup Most Valuable Player as a Shawinigan Cataractes player.
