One of Newcastle city centre’s busiest roads is closed to traffic this morning after a water pipe burst in the early hours of the morning.
Northumbrian Water staff are carrying out emergency repairs on Blackett Street today following the burst at 3am.
A spokesperson said all properties affected had their water supply back by 6am, although it’s not clear yet how many were affected.

They added that the burst was due to be repaired by midday, although the highways team “will probably want to keep it closed for the reinstatement of the road”, which could last until the end of the day.
In the meantime all buses are being diverted, including the 900 Metro replacement bus service, which this morning was dropping off passengers for Monument on Market Street.
The Northumbrian Water spokesperson said: "We are carrying out an emergency repair to a burst water main on Blackett Street, Newcastle this morning. Water supplies to properties have been fully restored. We are working with the local council and a lane closure is in place.
"The mains repair will be complete around midday today. The lane closure will continue to be in place while the excavated area is reinstated.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers affected for their patience at this time. For the latest follow @nwater_care on Twitter."
